The book is visually pleasing. The figure captions are integrated into the text so readers are not forced to look at distant figures. I like it very much, the only minor criticism is that the flow of text jumps from figure to the beginning of the following paragraph. Here are some examples but I could easily provide more:

  • On page 4 of the Introduction, I would like for the authors to have put this sentence in different location in the text.
  • On page 15, the authors present a device that uses these groups of materials. I would like the authors to explain these in terms of how this is different from other devices.
  • On page 16, the authors describe a device that has a large temperature difference, but they don’t explain how it is used.
  • Almost all the figures of the book are in landscape mode (except for the one in frontmatter), the authors should consider changing the layout from landscape to portrait.
  • The authors mentioned that the VRFB produces power at 400kW but I couldn’t find the result. I would like for the authors to present an image of this data, along with the line capacity, the current, the characteristic curve, and any other relevant data for the reader. The authors do not mention anything about the VRFB’s quick start design of improving its performance based on its pulse width modulation topology.
  • On page 20, the authors claimed that porous materials provide higher thermal pads. I was confused because the algorithm is then based on the thermal conductivity lowering, but the thermal conductivity is not reduced by creating porosity. The authors should clarify this.

This review shows that the thermoelectric process has been commercially used in the past decades. Thermoelectricity is widely used as radiant heat source to heat or cool environment passively and actively. Today, major applications of thermoelectric technology are to enabled a wireless body area network for medical and military purposes, to revitalize the Space Exploration via waste heat from fuel sources, or to use low efficiency conventional thermoelectric devices to power small wireless gadgets.
